March 4, 2011 - Rental housing owners, managers and residents will start collecting 500 thousand pounds of food for the 2011 Spring H.O.P.E. (Housing Owners and People Everywhere) door-to-door food drive on Tuesday, April 5, 2011.

Between the hours of 6:30 pm and 9:00 pm, volunteers will go door-to-door at over two thousand rental housing properties to collect food for local food banks.

“Unfortunately, demand for food banks is high and we have quite a way to go,” says Gail Nyberg, executive director of the Daily Bread Food Bank. “The Spring HOPE Food Drive will help food banks across the city throughout the critical summer months.”

“Last year, our province-wide food drive resulted in one million dollars in food and cash donations to local food banks,” said food drive organizer Bonnie Hoy. “This annual event will see thousands of tenants and landlords working together to collect food for the less fortunate in our communities.”

"CAP REIT is proud to support the FRPO 2011 food drive”, said Tom Schwartz, President and CEO of CAP REIT. “Every year, each of our Ontario buildings participates, and for 2011 we hope to surpass last year’s achievement."

Over 35 towns and cities in Ontario are participating in this province wide food drive which is coordinated by FRPO and the various regional apartment associations. People can get involved by donating non-perishable food items, making a donation at www.springhopefooddrive.ca or by helping to canvass for food.
